Commitment to the Community
Carle Arrow Ambulance takes an active role in community
outreach, including CPR instruction at local businesses, high schools and civic
organizations and responsible driving education to high school students. We also
use our thirty-plus years of emergency response experience to provide emergency
standby medical care at local sporting and community events.
Playing it Safe
Playing It Safe is an annual summertime event sponsored
by Carle Foundation Hospital and Champaign County SAFE KIDS Coalition. It is a
fun way to learn about safety through hands-on activities. Your family can find
out how to have safe fun this summer, and all year round, by attending Playing
It Safe!
Tips
to keep children safe
throughout the year.
-
Place all matches and lighters up high where
small children cannot reach them.
-
Make sure children know at least two ways to
get out of the house in case of a fire.
-
Test your smoke detector and change the
batteries every six months. Make sure your children know what the smoke
detector sounds like and what they should do if it goes off.
-
Have a designated meeting place outside for
everyone to meet if there is ever a fire.
-
Have frequent fire drills.
-
When cooking, keep children busy in a safe
place away from the stove.
-
Keep hot foods and drinks away from the edge
of tables and countertops.
-
Turn pot handles toward the back of the
stove. Whenever possible, use only the back burners.
-
Always check the water before placing a child
in a tub. Water at 120 degrees or lower is safest for a child. If the
temperature is over 120 degrees, reset your hot water heater.
-
Keep appliances away from the edge of
countertops or tables. Roll up appliance cords and put them out of reach of
children.
-
Check to make sure all cords are in good
condition and not frayed or worn.
-
Cover electrical outlets with outlet plugs.
-
Never smoke in bed.
-
Keep cigarette butts away from children. They
are poisonous if eaten.
-
Teach your children to stop, drop and roll if
their clothes ever catch on fire.
-
Cut foods into small pieces for children.
-
Don't let children run, walk, play or lie
down while eating.
-
A child can drown in only an inch of water.
Do not leave children alone in bathwater.
-
Make sure children are always restrained in a
car by either a car seat or seat belt.
-
Children should always ride in the back seat
of a car.
-
Children should always wear bicycle helmets
when riding a bicycle.
